We just returned from a four-day trip to beautiful Jasper, Alberta, from March 25-28, 2008. Eventually, I’ll post more photos from the trip, but here’s one, from beautiful Lac Beauvert, near the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge just outside Jasper.

Rali says, “This picture is from one perfect Sunday afternoon (January 18, 2008). During NFL season Rich is busy at home on Sunday afternoons, so I went with the kids for a walk and to drop off a book at our friends’ Michael and Moraine’s house. They invited us into their brand new hot tub. What you cannot see in the photo is the built-in music, the special sunflower body oil, the kids’ joyous and semi-adorable screaming and the cans of Guinness. Dark beer has an amazing quality that covers up children’s screaming, accidental splashing in the face by the same, and it tastes great too. Afterwards we met Rich for dinner at Spicy Hut, our neighborhood Thai restaurant. When the kids went to bed that night, I went to a pub with friends for some live music. Have I mentioned lately that I love my life in Calgary!”

On February 18, 2008, we joined a few friends at the Canmore Nordic Centre for a day of cross-country skiing. Our friend Zenny (in the pink shirt below) is a cross-country ski instructor, and generously volunteered a free lesson. It was a beautiful day for skiing, in a beautiful setting. Sorry, no action photos, since we all had our hands full while skiing, but here’s the whole gang afterwards. Thanks, Zenny!

January 2008 was pretty chilly in Calgary, as you might expect. Here’s Rich coming home from work one evening at 5:50 p.m., in the pitch dark, after a 20-minute walk from the office in -26C temperatures:

In January, each member of Kelvin’s first-grade science class built some kind of building or structure. Kelvin’s assignment, appropriate for Canada, was a ski jump:

On February 9, all three kids decided they were cold and needed blankets, and their heads were tired, so they needed pillows. This is the result:

Just thought it was a good time to share a few photos from the past few weeks. Here’s a shot of Carmen enjoying the outdoor hot tub at the Delta Lodge in Kananaskis in the predawn hours one morning in February.

Here are Rich and the kids (from left to right, Kristof, Kelvin, and Carmen) stopping for a break on a bike ride in February, with the frozen Bow River and the Calgary skyline in the background.

And just because I can’t post enough photos of my Lovely Bride, here’s Rali on March 9.

Calgary’s been experiencing springlike weather for a couple weeks, but late Saturday night, March 15, the snow came down hard. Naturally, Rali decided to celebrate by running in the St. Patrick’s Day 10K race in Calgary the next morning. Her previous best 10K time was 53 minutes. Here’s how she did in the snow and -10C temperatures. Rali’s in the yellow hat. There was a 5K race the same day; most of the others in the photo are probably 5K finishers.

On March 11, Kelvin lost a tooth for the first time, just before breakfast. Luckily, the next thing he had to eat was a banana with peanut butter, not celery or carrots! Here’s his new smile. The chipped top tooth is from Nigeria; the bottom front tooth is the missing one.
