Hashing on Canadian Thanksgiving 2008

Filed under: Photos — rich @ 7:14 am

We’re avid members of the Calgary Hash House Harriers, a drinking club with a running problem. The Calgary hash runs every Monday, year-round. In Canada, Thanksgiving is the second Monday in October, so we went to the Thanksgiving hash in northwest Calgary. It was an afternoon hash, so we brought the kids, who worked their way into a few photos that are now on the Calgary hash web site. Here’s a sample of the photos. If you find yourself in Calgary on a Monday, come out and join us at the hash!

Kelvin’s hash name is “Mad Dog.” Here’s how he got his name:

Since Grandma and Grandpa Ilievi left

I know, I’ve been a slacker about keeping the web site updated. But Rali and the kids are out for a bike ride on this cool October morning, so I’ll take advantage of the peace and quiet to post a few photos.

Rali’s parents, Johnny and Vili, visited us for almost two months in the summer of 2007. They flew home to Bulgaria on the morning of August 19, and the whole family went to the airport to see them off.

Saying goodbye, or do vizhenya

Here are Kelvin, Carmen, and Kristof (l-r) at a neighborhood park in Calgary on August 22.

Hanging out in the park

The kids are making their career choices known to us early. Carmen would like to be an astronaut (no diaper jokes, please)…

And the boys would like to be rock stars. Wouldn’t everyone?

Get your game on, go play

Kristof took off his training wheels earlier this year and has been riding his bike enormous distances. Kelvin kept his training wheels on a little longer, but decided if his brother could do it, he could do it, and he’s been keeping up with the rest of the family on bike rides.

Kelvin, full speed ahead

We have apple trees in our backyard, and this was an especially good year for apples. We picked apples, and picked up apples, and gave away apples, and made applesauce and apple butter and apple pies and apple cakes and apple cookies. If you come for a visit, save space in your luggage for some apples.

The park closest to our home has a big spider-web climbing thing (yes, I believe that’s the technical name for it). The boys love it, and Carmen hates being left behind, so she goes to practice climbing on it whenever possible.

The spider in the web

We picked up a bike trailer, so Carmen can now go for bike rides with the whole family, and she always wears her helmet. The boys will tell you that a rule for bike rides is that whenever we spot a playground, we need to stop for a visit. At this playground, Carmen hopped out of her trailer so fast that she left her helmet on.

September 22, 2007, was CAN-AM day at Heritage Park in Calgary. After a celebration and lunch, we headed out into the park for a delightful afternoon riding some old-fashioned amusement rides. Here are Kelvin, Rali, and Carmen on the merry-go-round.

And just so our site can occasionally be useful, here’s a good article from CNN.com on the Top 25 travel sites on the web. So now it’s easier than ever for you to book your trip to come and see us!
