The kids say goodbye to Calgary

Filed under: Photos — rich @ 2:57 am

On June 22, our friends Tom and Claire hosted a goodbye party for the whole family. The kids enjoyed plenty of running around in the large backyard, but Carmen made a mess of her dress (don’t ask!). Luckily, our hosts’ daughter Lizzie loaned Carmen a T-shirt:

It's a T-shirt, not a dress

This was not long before the Calgary Stampede, so traditional white cowboy hats were just coming out in force:

And as we went out to the car to head home that evening…well, I’m not really sure what led to this:

Happy Birthday to Kelvin!

Filed under: Photos — rich @ 6:30 am

Kelvin turns six years old today, July 23. He, Carmen, Kristof, and Rali are all in Pennsylvania already: they arrived last night after a long–but problem-free–trip from Calgary. Rali should have email access today (“rali” at this site). Rich is in Havre, Montana, with a few more days’ drive ahead before he’s back together with the family, so he has no photos of Kelvin on his 6th birthday yet…but here’s an old one from six years ago, to remember what he used to look like!

I'm A-OK!

Carmen’s birthday cupcakes

Filed under: Photos — rich @ 4:05 am

May 6 was Carmen’s third birthday, and we had a few friends over for birthday cupcakes. Since Rali was cooking, she added a LOT more to the menu, and had to send out a “no snacking” email a couple hours before the party to make sure everyone arrived with an empty stomach! Carmen had some friends over to share her pink strawberry cupcakes. If you look closely, you can see her about to blow out her three pink candles.

Mmmmmm…cupcakes!

On Saturday night, May 3, 2008, we went to a surprise 40th birthday party for our friend Andrea. Everyone had a great time, especially the kids, and especially when chocolate cupcakes were served for dessert. Carmen’s strategy was to lick all the icing off the top first, which led to this:

What happens when you eat the icing first?

Kristof’s 8th birthday party

Filed under: Photos — rich @ 5:15 pm

This morning was Kristof’s birthday party, held at Bulldog Interactive Fitness, which is a fitness/exercise center for kids. The guests, most around Kristof’s age, had a VERY energetic party–it was a blast! Here’s a photo from the party, with Kristof on the Treadwall, which is a moving climbing wall. Kristof’s climbing record: 116 feet!

It’s Kristof’s birthday!

Eight years ago today, Kristof joined the family. We went out for breakfast this morning, and here’s how our 8-year-old looked:

And just to refresh everyone’s memory, here’s how he looked just eight short years ago:

I think he’s aged pretty gracefully…don’t you? If you’d like to drop him a line, you can email him at kristof at roesing.net.

Cleaning up after the March 16 snow

Filed under: Photos — rich @ 6:22 am

The kids helped shovel snow after the March 16 snowstorm (that’s the one in which Rali ran the 10k race, below). We have only one snow shovel, so the kids took turns. Kelvin used a broom and rake to clean around the side of the house. Here’s Carmen on the front sidewalk.

And after she got tired, she handed the shovel off to Kristof, who cleaned the back porch.

Here’s a photo of Kristof, Kelvin, and Carmen (l-r) on a Calgary playground on March 7, 2008. Kelvin and Kristof chose this photo for posting. Kristof says, “This photo was at Rotary Park. Rotary Park also has a wading pool, but we didn’t go wading that day!”

The Great White North

Filed under: Photos — rich @ 11:23 am

January 2008 was pretty chilly in Calgary, as you might expect. Here’s Rich coming home from work one evening at 5:50 p.m., in the pitch dark, after a 20-minute walk from the office in -26C temperatures:

Even colder than he looks...
